Phnom Penh, March 21, 2024: In a resolute declaration, Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed the unwavering commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia to support individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance and care. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the "National Center for the Disabled Techo Sen and the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia," the Prime Minister emphasized the government's dedication to inclusivity and equality.
The Prime Minister denounced discrimination and neglect towards individuals with disabilities, highlighting the moral and universal principles that mandate support for this marginalized group. He underscored the detrimental impact of such practices on societal unity, well-being, and trust.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet called upon both national and international stakeholders to actively contribute to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals concerning Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He emphasized the imperative of granting substantive rights to individuals with disabilities, fostering a community characterized by inclusivity and well-being.
As part of its commitment, the Royal Government has implemented a quota system, reserving 2% of positions in state institutions for individuals with disabilities, in accordance with the Law on the Protection and Promotion of Persons with Disabilities.
Emphasizing the fundamental right to life, the Prime Minister advocated for equal access to education, healthcare, justice services, and participation in various societal activities for individuals with disabilities. He stressed the importance of eliminating discrimination in all spheres, including society, religion, sports, art, and politics, ensuring equal opportunities for all Cambodians, regardless of their abilities.
The Prime Minister's statement reaffirms Cambodia's dedication to fostering an inclusive society where individuals with disabilities are empowered to lead fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to the nation's progress.
